Re: The use of ... ori
I think suumyc is pretty close - the adjactive/adverb form of "beyond." Too itself originally had an idea of travel or directionality (comes from the same root as to ), so "beyond-ish" doesn't seem like a crazy idiom. Ori'suumyc ("too far") would then be "more than beyond-ish" or "more than too [far...

I am persuaded by these arguments. I withdraw my objection.

Re: On canon Mando'a, living Mando'a, and dialects.
Mando'a is an internal language, basically one giant shibboleth. You'd likely spend most of your time talking with people you knew well. Family and other Mandalorians from the community in the immediate "area", be that area physical or informational, would be who you dealt with the most. Think abou...

Re: On canon Mando'a, living Mando'a, and dialects.
Remember, few people spoke only Mando'a, so it's actually very likely dialects would have sprung up based on family. Why is that? If my grandmother was born and raised in one place, my second cousin in a second, my father in a third, and I myself am not even of the same species as the rest of my cl...

Re: On canon Mando'a, living Mando'a, and dialects.
I am actually suggesting that we purposefully don't stick to the canonical list of Mando'a words. I do not have any problem with people who want to learn/use purely canonical Mando'a. However, I would like to see a 'living' Mando'a language, and that will require a greater lexicon that is currently...

Re: On canon Mando'a, living Mando'a, and dialects.
I definitely agree that if we don't stick to the canonical wordbase when neologizing we will quickly become unintelligible. In this sense we are far more constrained than if we (or anybody, really) could simply make up a brand new word for a new concept; we're essentially limited to describing a new...

Ooh, ni emuuri ibac , Vlet! Bintar ibace . More importantly, I like having multiple words to express slightly different shades of the same concept. So long as we are making words up, I like all of these - the important thing being that we understand why we made up the words that we did. I had forgot...

Re: On Duty ...
I suppose the question one should ask first is ... what is duty? I think the English word generally simply means "that which one must do," and is agnostic about why one must do it. The why is not inherent in the word (although of course it may be assumed, depending on context). So perhaps bora is no...

On Duty ...
I'm curious how the forum would render the word duty . I was a little surprised to see that there isn't one in Karen's lexicon (sidebar: casualty of an aborted project, or deliberate omission a la "hero?"). My current leading candidate is ijaa'bora . Thoughts? Context: I practice German longsword fe...
