Re: The Seventy Maxims of Maximally Effective Mando'ade - FINISH
Okay, time for 10 more (starting with 20, which I apparently never finished). These are getting less painful to edit as I go, which either means that I improved rapidly as I was writing these, or I've gotten rusty. I'm hoping the former. 20. If you're not willing to shell your own position, you're n...

https://i.pinimg.com/originals/e5/0e/13/e50e1397a2fb5c45b7a16a6de3cc119a.jpg Took a while to finish my degree and nail down a new job, but I'm back doing basically what I was before, and that means more time for more translations! Hopefully I'll get it finished in the next few months so I can shoot...

Re: The Mando'a Bible Translation Project
Great to have you, vod! Personally, I learned best by doing. I learned Mando'a (as much as I can say I've "learned" a language I can't converse in yet) by jumping in and translating something. It looks intimidating, but it's mostly English with different vocabulary and new prefixes and suffixes. The...

For those moments when you read a particularly awesome quote and think to yourself "I wonder how that would sound in Mando'a?" I'll be updating this root post with finished quotes as they're made. And this isn't just for me; anyone can post their own translations here, or even request them. For clar...

Mandalorian culture: The Art of Storytelling
In every story worth telling, there are constants. O'r anay jate'gehat'ik, ne'tome cuyi darasuum. In every good story, pieces are eternal. The hero, blessed by the gods and the narrator, who always knows the right thing to say or do. The antagonist, who gives the hero their chance to shine. The stum...

Re: The Seventy Maxims of Maximally Effective Mando'ade - FI
Thanks! I'm afraid this may be on hold for a bit; my job dried up, so I'm spending all of my free time hunting for another one. Might have a lead on a NASA gig, we'll see.
I do intend to finish this, and probably send it to Schlock's author when it's done. I just don't know when I'll have the time.

Re: The Mando'a Bible Translation Project
I think passive voice in Mando'a can be couched in "gyce'cuyi ru'[xxxx]", "shall be [past tense verb]." That said, to keep it in present tense, switching "they" for "it" might help clarify (at least as much as the original text does). I wish targeted pronouns were a thing. I'll return to these (and ...

Re: The Seventy Maxims of Maximally Effective Mando'ade - FI
Wow, some of these first translations were clunky. I feel like I should apologize for making people read those. I also feel like I'll be saying that about this entire thread a year from now. Personal growth is fun, but before/after pictures never get less painful. 1. Pillage, then burn. Gar ne'lis c...

Re: The Seventy Maxims of Maximally Effective Mando'ade
You, vod, get a special shout-out. Every word in green on this thread came from your Total Guide to Mandalorian Language, and this definitely wouldn't have been possible (or would have been immensely harder) without it. I intend to condense your work into a Beginner's Guide thread once I finish with...

Engineer here. I actually looked into designing active cooling for a set of beskar'gam, and while it's technically possible, it'd chew through batteries like candy. You'd be better off with a fan in your buy'ce and ice packs on your torso, like Vlet and Aarlaya suggested. That said, there are ways t...

Yeah, I've been following it for a few years and it's great. According to the author, he's actually getting ready to end the story within the next year or two. Which makes sense, because biological immortality for everyone in the galaxy is within reach and the AI singularity is rapidly approaching, ...
