Re: Feedback on a short translation (and advice on translating 'stand against')

Ori'vor'e Vlet, I appreciate the feedback! The last line's the one giving me the most trouble, of course. Even though Mando'a tends to be far more practical than poetic (at least in general), I'd like to stick to the same format for all four lines, if possible, which is why I'm trying to stick to th...

Feedback on a short translation (and advice on translating 'stand against')

Attempting to translate the following: If they stand behind you, give them protection. If they stand beside you, give them respect. If they stand in front of you, watch their back. If they stand against you, show them no mercy. This is what I've got: Meh val moti nor'vaii gar, cabuo val Meh val moti...

Re: Mando Skraan and Recipes

I've made it twice - as you suggested the 2nd time I used more spices. I've really enjoyed it and will definitely have it again. I haven't tried it over rice yet, but I plan to do that, too. I am also going to try substituting sweet potato for the regular potato next time. I'm not sure why that occu...

Re: Mando Skraan and Recipes

I used ditali pasta when I made it. Shared the recipe with my mom, and she made it without pasta or couscous and served it over rice.

Re: Poetry, and other Rhymes

Non-cited words come from mandoa.org Don't Quit - Author Unknown Ke'nu akaan'ba'slana – miit'ad nakaryc (Ke'nu from KT, ke – imperative, used as order; negative - nu; akaan'ba'slanar – surrender, drop R from infinitive; writer, poet – miit'ad ; nakaryc - unknown) When things go wrong as they sometim...

Vor'e ner vod, ni ven'slana nuhoyir mirdala'shya ibi'tuur. I've been working on translating a poem, but as a novice I'm finding it quite challenging. I'm trying to finalize it to the best of my ability and will post it soon. I'd appreciate any feedback or advice you fine people could provi...

Re: Long term nuclear waste storage warning

Ori'vor'e for subjecting yourself to the musings of a novice - and a very green one at that! (I'm inclined to apologize for subjecting you to it, but I suppose that's why we're here to begin with, so I'll stick to gratitude!) For chaaj'miit, I was thinking 'announcement', so broadcast/communication ...

Kandosii, KensokuT10! I love Ky'goy Be'ca. I wasn't familiar with Urman'miit N'at Chaab. Vor'entye par me'dinu'an! (Annnd that feels wrong... if anyone would care to correct my attempt, please do. Re: Long term nuclear waste storage warning

I find this sort of thing very helpful in learning a language. I don't have sufficient vocabulary memorized at this point, so I need to go word by word to try to work it out. I didn't look up the original text until I had translated your post above, and was pleased to find that I understood the mess...

Re: Long term nuclear waste storage warning

Wow Vlet, that's quite an undertaking. I wasn't familiar with the original text so I took a shot at translating it from Mando'a to English. I definitely got the gist of the warning, and when I looked up the original I wasn't far off. Kandosii! I had to use three sources to identify just about everyt...

Oya! You might enjoy the document posted in this thread, which includes a nice overview of Mando'a as a whole, and quite a lot of derived words.

Re: "This is the Way" in mando'a ?

I'm admittedly new to Mando'a and no accomplished linguist myself, but my suspicion is that you would need to conjugate the verb "cuyir" to "cuyi" if you include it (it seems that Mando'a tends to simplify by dropping articles and other words that can be inferred from context, and the verb "cuyir" i...
