Re: List of Custom Words
One that hit me tonight as a possibility: Dar'amur, to mean mummification, and dar'amyc for mummified. A mummy could maybe be dar'amad.
My rationale being literally "no longer changing" seems to be a literal description of the process.

Pardon me if I'm being dense (it's pretty late in this time zone) but what the unholy hell do we need 'mummification' for??
I mean, the etymology makes sense, I just can't see where you'd use it.

Eh, you never know what you'll find to talk about. I just post words I come up with, not saying they'll be in common use

Re: List of Custom Words
You could use it for “stiff”, like “Sir, we stormed the building but the corpses of the hostages were stiff for a long time already”.
But mummys... Doubt that mando culture would have anything like that

Re: List of Custom Words
I doubt more words are ever bad to have. Even if Mandos don't mummify anything themselves, they've probably encountered it in other cultures, and probably assimilated individuals originating from said cultures.
So I've been making some new words in my own thread for a while, but forgot to post them here. Feedback is appreciated.
Burcya'la: friendly. From the root word burc'ya (friend) and the suffix 'la, which as far as I can tell means "like," resulting in a word meaning "like a friend." See also: evaar'la, jare'la, osik'la.
Ke'gyc'an: ordering. Root word ke'gyce (order, command) and the suffix 'an, gerund verb suffix.
Narser'nibrar: to sacrifice, to lose for a purpose. Root words narser (purpose), nibrar (lose, fail). This one could probably use a better contraction, but I couldn't find one that preserved enough of both words to make the etymology clear.
Ne'ru'cuyi: were not. Root word cuyir (to be), negative prefix ne', and past tense prefix ru'.
Oyu: galaxy. Derived root from oyu'baat (universe) and oyula (galactic).
Ru'pirim: used. Root word pirimmur (to use), past tense prefix ru'.
Ru'trattok'or: failed. Root word trattok'or (fail, fall, collapse), past tense prefix ru'.
Val: them. Not a new word, but expanding the current definition (they, theirs) to include another common English form of the same idea.
Vhebesbe: equipment meant for use on solid ground (scout bikes, mobile HQ, earthmovers, etc.). Root words vheh (earth, dust, soil), besbe (slang: kit).

Re: List of Custom Words
So, I've tried to come up with a few words, especially when I found that there is a certain lack of actual food stuff (at least as far as I could see). There were some general terms, yet most were lacking when trying to describe anything in particular. These are more spur-of-the-moment things, so I'm not that sure about them in any way.
lor'gam = sausage (loras + 'gam, since that's basically how they're made)
and used in a more specific way:
taak'lorgam = bone sausage (which is different from a 'normal' sausage, since it's something that could be considered using leftover meat still attached to bones stuffed in a sausage and boiled with a lot of mustard seeds; it might also more denote a whole meal)
and I found that there was a word found for 'vegetable' - and there's a word that can be used as 'plant' which also means 'green'. So, combining them:
vorp'urgaat = lettuce, cabbage
Adding colours could produce different kinds of cabbage, like white or red cabbage. Since there doesn't seem to be a word for 'sour' yet, kraut would have to be n'ujyc vorp'urgaat, I guess.
Something that is less food and more a half-pun:
jat'naas = "all clear" (jate/jatne + naas, for when no one is in sight, "it's good there is nothing")
lor'gam = sausage (loras + 'gam, since that's basically how they're made)

Digital necromancy... *sigh*.
Taljair and Ge'tal, just about the mummification, it kind of raises a more far-reaching question about the whole mission here: are we trying to make a language *we can use*, or a language *Mando'ade would use*? Because if it's one we'd use, we'll naturally focus on concepts *we* deal with day-to-day, and have distinctions between different kinds of cellphone, because those matter in *our* culture. If it's Mando'a for Mando'ade, the focus is different, and if Aarlaya's right, the conversations we have in it will be different too.

Re: List of Custom Words
Well, thats an interesting question and i’ll try to explain my position.
Of course we need a language we could use. But if we separate it from mando culture as it was described, we’ll lose lot of what this language was about. I mean we can add a word for “hero” and cross out all the words for stab cause we dont need more then one in our day-to-day lives. Then we add stuff mando’s would have no idea about like “cashflow”, “corporate investment” etc.
Should we? If we should, then whats the whole point? Language always reflects the culture. If we discard one, we could as well stop trying in another.
As i worked on some of the language, i tried to add stuff that was missing but also tried to preserve the feel of the language. If we decide thats not nessesary... *shrug* then i guess im out. Just as im out of disney’s star wars, cause it just not what im used to and like.

Re: List of Custom Words
May I suggest some words? Of the two word list posts, I thought that this one might be the best place to post in.
I notice that we’re lacking in musical instruments. Feel free to change or fix anything if you need to.
laar’kot’hokaan- stringed instrument, from song + ax (ax as in guitar)
gam’ya’gaid- drum, from skin + bowl (started as pel’gam’ya’gaid, but I think this is better)
laar’kov’taakur- horn instrument, from song + horn (OR kaab’kov’taakur, from sound + horn, but I think it would be better as bugle or signal horn)
I also have yacur’epan- vomit, from flush out + stomach
Also if cinargaanar means to fence, launder then wouldn't cinargaa or cinargaan be fence, launderer?

I suppose based on the latest words offered we can just agree that ‘nak’ means “angle”. In geometrical sense.

purgaat is vegetable. purgaat'ad is literally cabbage man. It's a bit of reference mixing and it doesn't have to be a word if nobody else likes it.Ner Jate'kara wrote: ↑06 Nov 2019 23:35From where do you based your word purgaat'ad? But even if it is supposed to be fruit, how do you get cursed, unfortunate from that?

I'm doing a translation project for NaNoWriMo because
I'm a horrible writer and I've needed to make up some words for it.
ori'a'oryc - greatness
alor'ika - prince/princess
kotepyc - bravely, heroic
uja'gal - mead (honey + ale)
chaab'ad - scourge, terror, boogie man
ori'haal'gi - whale (big + breath + fish)
bericab - tribute, protection, bribe (pay + protect)
And some words that came about because of those words.
jorbe'ad - instigator
bericabuor - to bribe
haal'gi - dolphin, porpoise
haal'or'baar'gi - lungfish, amphibian
Also, if gaal means wing then:
bev'gaal - bee (sting + wing)
ori'bev'gaal - wasp, hornet, yellow-jacket
It also fits in with the birds and the bees metaphor. bevagol - bev'gaal
